Rental prices in Australia
Below are two sets of maps showing the (approximate) median weekly rent in each federal electorate, at the time of the 2011 Census. The first set of maps covers all reported rented properties, with values ranging from $115.70 (Lingiari) to $508 (Wentworth). The second set of maps shows the estimated median rent only for two-bedroom dwellings, with values ranging from $138.30 (Cowan; this is a strangely low median price – there were only about 500 rented two-bedroom dwellings in the electorate, compared to over 6600 three- and four-bedroom dwellings) to $557.10 (Sydney).
The Census reports rents in bands, usually of $25; to estimate the median I linearly interpolated between the ends of each band.
