Children per family in Australia
Below are two sets of maps showing the (approximate) mean number of children per family in each federal electorate, at the time of the 2011 Census. The first set of maps includes families with no children, with values ranging from 0.25 (Sydney) to 1.14 (Fowler). The second set of maps shows the average number of children, given that a family has at least one child; these values range from 1.52 (Sydney) to 2.10 (Lingiari).
The census data categorises the number of children into N/A (which I assume to be zero), 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 or more. In calculating the averages, I set "6 or more" to 6, so the values shown are very slight under-estimates.
Data is via TableBuilder.
